It's Just A Wedding!

Watch the news. Turn on the radio. Hey, even listen to your favorite sports talk radio station and at some point in time they will bring up this engagement, this wedding that they don't even know when it's occurring. This wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton has not even been given a place on the 2011 calendar and yet it's the talk , even the lead story on all news stations! Is something wrong? It's just a wedding and to top it all off, it's thousands of miles of way! I know what you're thinking...marriage is Sacred, it's Holy. I'm not talking about the importance of marriage or the lack of it in today's society. All you have to do is look at the divorce rate and see that marriage is not high up on the list of important things. It amazes me how the lead story of all the news stations all week now, both local and national news has been about this wedding. I'm glad they're getting married and I hope they do well. I am saddened though about how the national media will get so caught up in this "love story" this "prince and princess" fairy tale story and forget about what really matters.

Also this week it was reported that one out of seven families here in the United States has had a problem with feeding their own family and needed assistance from a local food bank. The Department of Agriculture has said that 5.6 million households, not people...5.6 million families have gone without food! The same report also said that 50 million people, including 17 million children live in a home that was uncertain of getting or having food at some point.

Yes it was reported, even discussed. It was never the lead story though. The lead story was a young man who is marrying a lady in a country that is not even our own. How sad that something so significant, so important could be a secondary story to that of a future king. We shouldn't be surprised. How many of our military over the years have lost their lives to be mentioned 20 minutes later in a newscast behind an oil spill, an armed robbery or even an idiotic political statement.

So with all that said, who really cares...it's just a wedding! As a Christian, I'm waiting for the real BRIDEGROOM to come and take me and HIS church away and that wedding will be with the KING of KINGS. Now that's a wedding.
See You @ The River...John
