Thanks For The Help Man!

Yesterday we had our annual drivers meeting at the Gallatin Civic Center which is a city run recreation type center. We meet with all of the drivers to discuss any new changes and laws that have occurred since last year. It was a lot of work getting ready for this meeting. I have spent the last month working on various things like updating the handbook to get printed, PowerPoint presentations, giveaways, snacks, the list goes on and on. Well the big day finally arrived. We rented out two rooms that would be able to host about 65 of us total. Before the big day began, we had to load many vehicles up with all the things that would be needed for this event. Some of the things were a sound system, ice chest with drinks, coffee pots, snacks, gifts and even a photo copier. As we loaded, a cold front passed through and the temperature was bitter cold and dropping every minute. We pulled up to the building to unload for this event, and there stood a man at the door. He had sweat stains on the front of his sweatshirt and he was holding a gym bag. He watched as myself and others made numerous trips back and forth from the building to the vehicles carrying things in. He could see that we were busy. He could see that we needed help. Never one time during the 20 minutes or so did this man ever lift a finger to help or say a word. I wasn't expecting him to carry anything. I wasn't expecting him to do our jobs. He could have at least caught the door for us a time or two. He just stood there, oblivious to the fact that we needed assistance. As we neared the end of our unloading, he pushed open the door and walked outside to get inside of an awaiting car. Was this man lazy? Was he just a jerk? Couldn't he see that our loads were heavy? Couldn't he see that we just needed help getting in?
That is just how myself and other Christians at times treat people in this world. We at times find ourselves standing at the "door way of life" just watching people struggle with the weights of this world. It might be sin that they are dealing with or it might be that they just had fallen down on hard times. People struggle to "get inside", out of the cold and we just stand there. Oh we might be tired because of our own stuff. We might even be carrying our own weights as well. You see it's not enough to see a need, we must then act upon it. I believe myself and many others miss out on so many blessings because we overlook the simple needs of people. Jesus was all about meeting the needs of people. He saw our sin and the need we had of a savior to save us from that sin. I am so glad He didn't just stand at the door of heaven and watch us struggle with the weights of sin in this world. Spend some time thanking God for meeting your needs and ask him to help you see the needs of others and then act upon it. Don't just stand at the door!
See You At The River...John

  1. John, again thank you for ministering to me. I need reminding alot not to just stand in the doorway. Keep up the good work He has given you.
