We're No Different

I have just seen on the news over the last few days about an 87 year old woman who collapsed at her nursing home and died. The 911 operator having been told that the woman was not breathing, told the person on the line to take the phone over to the woman and follow her instructions on how to perform CPR on this woman or she is going to die. The nurse on the other line replied "We can't do CPR". The 911 operator asked if there was anyone there close by that could help this lady so that she won't die to which she replied, "Not at this time". Paramedics arrived on the scene but by that time, it was too late...she had passed away. The Nursing Home responded with the following statement..."Our practice is to immediately call emergency personnel for assistance and to wait with the individual needing attention until such personnel arrives. That is the protocol we follow". I don't know the legal guidelines that one has to make and obey in that situation. I do however totally understand the public outrage with the lack of response and regardless of the legal or employment ramifications, a person was dying and no help was offered! Sounds crazy. Sounds immoral. Sounds inhumane that one who has been trained as this nurse had been to sit back and let another person die...but before you and I cast judgement, you and I do the same thing every day! We that know Jesus as our Lord and Savior walk by people, work along side people or live next door to people who are lost and dying in their sins and destined to a sinner's hell and we never lift a finger, say a kind word or put forth any effort. We just keep on "doing our job" while people are spiritually dying all around us and hoping and waiting that one more qualified, maybe a pastor or a more seasoned christian will come by and give them life by introducing them to Jesus! It is time that we ALL wake up and understand our moral responsibility is the same one and reason why Jesus came..."To seek and to save those which are lost"...Luke 19:10
