CVS Passed the Test...Will You?

I read today that CVS, which is a national pharmacy chain has made the decision to stop selling tobacco products. The reason, well here is what was posted on their Facebook page.
"Today, we’ve announced that we are ending the sales of tobacco in all 7,600 CVS/pharmacy stores by October 1. As a health care company, it’s time for us to take a stand and to put our customers, colleagues and patients on a path to better health." What CVS decided was that the selling of tobacco products and the proven harm that it causes overshadows and contradicts who they are as a store. I agree with their stance and hope that other stores will soon follow.
It did get me to thinking. Can you imagine if God's people did that with things in their own lives? What if people stopped using, partaking, enjoying, sharing and even posting things that contradicted who they are? What if parents did that? The truth is that many parents say they love their kids but the things they allow them to do or even worse the things they allow them to see doing contradicts the very words that they say...Do as I say not as I do mentality!
I don't know how many times as a youth pastor I heard a teenager say to me that what they were doing can't be all that bad because their parents do it! Somewhere the personal pleasure and profit of the parent outweighed the message that was being said to their own kids. Those parental choices overshadowed who the parents were suppose to be.
Listen, don't wonder later in life why your teenager is an addict when they watched you drink it, smoke it, snort it or shoot it up. Don't question why your now married child abuses their spouse when they watched you do that to yours. Don't rebuke them later in life because of their filthy mouth when they heard you cuss like a sailor. Don't question why your teenager has no desire for the things of God or the house of God when you neglected it yourself as they grew up or let other things like sports take precedent. Oh if we could ever live this idea out that we would "take a stand and put others we care about on a better path"...can you imagine what difference we would make not only to our own families but those we come in contact with each and every day? Philippians 2:4 says...Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. If people only realized that their actions, be it good or bad have a great impact on others, some of them being ones you don't even know!
Honestly, we ALL should take a major look at what CVS did today and check our own inventory of our lives and take a stand to see what it is that we can remove that is contrary to the way we should be living and realize the affect it is having on the innocent we should love!
